Win Adge’s Star Trek Web Site Award

RULES AND INFORMATION

Adge's Award

As I have already found out, there are many Star Trek website awards, although most of them are just given out as a courtesy or like a banner to get more visitors. Adge’s Star Trek Web Site Award, in distinction, will be awarded only to the very best sites in my view monthly.  I will not however, be using a "point system", and my final assessment will be final. There are however basic requirements that have to be fulfilled and further criteria that should be met for an increased chance to win.

Adge’s Star Trek Web Site Awards Design is based on the Bajoran ideogram.

The Gold Award is the highest ranking award - the awards are ranked in the following order: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Only Star Trek related sites will be considered for my award.

If you are successful, the only thing you must do after winning is to link your site back to http://www.lcars.org.uk so that the award is considered officially published.

Basic Requirements

Your Star Trek Site: The site must be specifically about Star Trek, no general science fiction or TV site. The site must fundamentally support the idea of and not criticize it

Your Site Content: There has to be sufficient real content.  Please do not apply if most of your site is dedicated to index, links, webrings, and guestbook or of similar pages. Don't even apply if you have just copied and pasted arbitrary stuff found on the web. Finally, don't apply if your content urgently needs an update. The site must not contain any illegal or offensive material or broken links. I will not award any site that links to or convey ideas that are based on hate, discrimination or pornography.

Your Style: The web page design has to be consistent throughout. Fonts and colours must be well readable and not too garish. Random fonts, background colours, text or table alignments and navigation bar locations must be avoided. There must be an index page or a sitemap; I do not wish to see just a "next" link on the single pages. Slipshod design, for instance pages with default headers like "Untitled Normal Page" or "Default Page" as given by the HTML editor, is not suitable.

I do not insist on the use or the non-use of frames. Fast and easy navigation is beneficial; the fewer sub-page levels, the better. The single pages need not necessarily have a menu bar, but a "back" or "home" button should be available along with other links, where useful. Larger jpg/gif etc images should always be thumb nailed. Graphic elements ought to be precisely designed and harmonized with each other. I also like to see innovative design approaches, but "star background" layouts and "LCARS-style" menus are welcome too.

Your Technical quality: As I have learned myself, I will test your site with different browsers, Explorer, Netscape and Mozilla. Pages crammed with too many large images, banners, applets, scripts or other things that considerably slow down the display even on a fast computer must at all cost be avoided.

Sites that don't require any Java, JavaScript or Shockwave (at least not for vital functions) and are viewable with Explorer, Netscape and Mozilla are quite acceptable. Fast loading and stability is vital, not ambitious programming. It should be possible to load the pages with a Pentium III without waiting a minute per page alone for applets or plug-ins to initialize.

Any sites with the following bad behaviour will be a site disqualified immediately; if they deny to work with any of the three browsers I have mentioned above, disable the right mouse button, work only in full-screen mode, remove the browser menu in a new window, have pop-up windows prompting to install something, including ad-wear and have pop-ups that reappear each time a new page is displayed, or have pop-ups that open a new pop-up when it's closed, have more than one pop-up, or deny to work with pop-up killers.

Reasonable: Paid banners are reasonable, but only in small numbers as long as they don't disrupt the design.  I reserve the right not to award sites that uses a language completely foreign to me

Range of Sites: Personal sites by preference.

Your Original content will be appreciated; data collections are welcome as well. The first will be mainly judged by their originality and plausibility, the latter by their reliability and comprehensiveness. I do favour media sites as I would like to see far more websites of common interest and, in my opinion, computer gaming group pages will have only a marginal chance. All text and images copied from other websites should be properly credited. It goes without saying that regular updates and additions are appreciated.

How to Apply.

Please read the above explanations carefully.
If you feel your site fulfils *all* of the requirements and criteria, then complete the application here.
