ABOUT ADGE

I have had many emails on, why, how etc and some visitors may be wondering how LCARS Adge's Star Trek Media Site started. This page interface is a brief explanation from me, about me, and how I came to build LCARS Adge's Star Trek Media Site.

Introduction.

First, hi, and thank you for wanting to know a little about me.  I live in the UK, in a small village just outside of Salisbury, England, approximately about 2 miles from Stonehenge.
Over 60 years ago I lived here.

Stonehenge

I was a full time vehicle fleet manager, working in Salisbury. Now being in my late 60's and happily retired, with no previous experience in writing web pages, I thought it was time that I tried my hand at the venture.
I started the LCARS Adge's Star Trek Media Site basically because I had quite a lot of Trek 'bits and bobs',  that I had kept over the years, going back to the seventies, when I first watched Star Trek: The Original Series, as a teenager.
One thing was sure at that time, I immediately could see difference between Star Trek and other TV sci-fi series. Admittedly, in 1966, I watched the shows then in black and white -  gosh, all those years ago!

Me

My aim was to make a Animated Star Trek Site, as there are not any that I had seen. I had many Flash animations that I had painted representing LCARS and Pre-LCARS.
Note: Most if not all my friends thought this impossible. My intent in designing this site is to get you, the visitor, and stimulate those failing star trek memories which capriciously erase from our minds over time. I hope I have achieved that successfully. Please let me know what you think of this site by sending me an email. You can use the email me from link in the welcome menu.

Research.

In all, I had spent almost two years starting in 2002 researching how and what type of LCARS Theme should be put into place and finally the preparations began. This took the form of sketching and drawing with Paint Shop Pro. I already had Flash and Ulead Animation, and was fairly confident in using it. Building up a good collection.

My Plaque

Now all I needed now was a way to show my animations to the world - of course, the Internet!  However, alas, I had no idea what html, xml and frames was all about, let alone figure out how to write a webpage!; So the learning curve started, and by Christmas 2003, I became fully competent at writing and using Microsoft FrontPage (my choice).

Originally, I had started two versions of the Adge's Star Trek site both were tested and revamped within a quick 10 days, and this site, now, LCARS Adge's Star Trek Web Site, is I suppose Version 2, although you are viewing Version 2.1 today which can be viewed in any browser and screen mode. As I stated earlier nearly two years in the making, I can only guess at the thousands of hours spent on designing this site.

That's about it, you now know almost all there is to know about LCARS Adge's Star Trek Media Site. Hopefully, and I am sure you will appreciate all of the effort I have put into this site. As you can see by reading my news page it is far from finished. It will continue to grow and no doubt will change and evolve as time and the opportunities permit. New animations, write ups and pictures will be added as I go along.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Sue my wife, who manages to just put up with all my trek exploits.

Great LCARS Sites.

I had envied Sean Stephenson's site at http://www.lcarscom.net and his approach and decided something similar was needed. Just by chance I came across Christopher Rossi's site at www.lcarsdeveloper.com who has open source Flash. So my thanks and immediate gratitude must in all circumstances go to these two sites for pointing me and giving me a set standard in providing a good LCARS Theme. The aim was to have my site up and running by Christmas 2003.

Information and Resources.

Various resource information including pictures found within my site have been taken from:

Fonts for Star Trek Animations including LCARS

So many have been collected over the last decade, plus with so many available off the web.
My first introduction to Star Trek Fonts was purchasing 'The Star Trek Font Pack' in 1993. I still use them today.

Interactive Technical Manual

The Star Trek Sketch Book, The Movies, Generations & First Contact, plus the Star Trek The Next Generation Blueprints by Rick Sternbach is full of information that any Trek fan could want. I'm always picking up my copies to read, as they are packed with such a lot of useful data.

Two further books are the Star Trek The Next Generation Technical Manual by Rich Sternbach and Michael Okuda which is full of diagrams and drawings of the NCC1701 D. The Starfleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph 1975. This is one of my favourites and was one of my first books. It is a fully illustrated book which features details on the articles of federation,  federation flags, seals and uniforms, navigational charts and equipment, star fleet organization and the detailed schematics of star fleet equipment - interstellar space/warp technology - and federation codes. A 1st edition which has been well fingered.
